Judging for this year’s SaskAM Photo Competition resulted in some great photos picked this year!
Results (now with pictures) are on the SaskAm.ca website.
If you need to see the images, take a short drive to the Golden Mile mall in Regina. They will be on display until our awards ceremony Saturday, May 8th.
Long title!
Today, April 17th was one of the Regina Photo Club’s regularly scheduled field trips. The sun was shining and regardless of the near zero degree weather to start, we ended up with a beautiful 14 degree day.
The sun was a shining and many of us had our walking boots on!
I followed my previous advice and stayed with using one lens only for the day. Sure I carried the backpack loaded down with all the lenses that I own but, I did stay true to shooting with the one lens.
Another thing that helped my creativity – was that I decided to use a common visual theme. The majority of the things I shot were the various fashioned “No Parking” signs that were fairly abundant in this area. Another common thing to find was graffitti art work. Brick buildings, broken windows, cars, all seemed to call out to certain photographers. RPC member Gail and Bill were invited into a auto wrecking yard where many cars go to die. Apparantly, the previous week a fire destroyed a portion of the building across the street as well as a good number of vehicles.
Nine of us enjoyed a great breakfast along with wonderful morning conversation. Eight went out to shoot in the warehouse district where we were met by 2 more enthusiastic photographers! All in all, this was a great day to spend out in the sunshive and with great photographer friends.
Anyway, I also spent the day shooting bracketed images for the purpose of HDR… Have look-see and see what you think. Much of today’s work are over-processed as it seems to be my current taste…
Enjoy!

The next ReginaPhotoClub meeting is going to be a hands-on experience. We are encouraging everyone to bring your cameras and tripods!
One of the many issues that many new-comers have to the hobby of photography is deciding which lens to buy (if the budget allows). The cost of buying lenses for your newly acquired camera is a very expensive endeavour and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Even though it would be nice to be able to purchase every great lens – you are introducing a problem into your shooting. You carry a back pack full of lenses on a hike – and when you get there – you can’t decide which lens to use.
Here is a fun challenge! Grab your camera and one lens. Leave the rest at home and shoot until the card is full! You will be surprised at what you will get.
My apologies to many who visit this site. Yes, I agree – this blog should be updated on a more regular basis. At least for it to be of interest and use to the readers.
Let’s just say that I crawled out of hibernation and leave it at that.
Last Sunday, a few of the Regina Photo Club fieldtrippers ventured out in downtown Regina. It was a gorgeous day with good light and no cold winds. Needless to say a few of us managed to wander about and capture a few frames of the downtown environment.
Jessica, Anthony, Jason, Petro, Bob, Deborah, Larry, Darcie (Larry’s grand-daughter), Chad, Wayne and a few others wandered about with camera and tripods in hand.
It seems to me that in a group setting like this, a person’s inhibitions is less of a problem when going for that odd point of view or a closer macro shot of architectual detail. At least for me – I’m far more comfortable to shoot ‘artisticly’ when other around me are trying to do the same. Passers-by seem to understand that this is either class or club out on a field assignment. Even on occasion, some aren’t hesitant to partake of an impromptu portrait session (which hasn’t quite happened for me yet – I’m still too shy to ask outright).
Here’s to a springtime of outdoor shooting…. Enjoy the few photos that I managed to capture on that nice warm Sunday.
